extracting DNA

Extracting DNA from A babnana

Aim: to extract DNA from a banana using a method from the internet
Material
  • 1/2 peeled ripe banana (you can also use strawberries or other fruit)
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp liquid dishwashing soap
  • resealable zip-top bag (quart size)
  • very cold rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) placed in freezer ahead of time
  • coffee filter
  • narrow glass
  • wooden stirrer .
Materials
    1. Mush the banana in the resealable bag for about a minute until all the lumps are gone and it almost looks like pudding.
    2. Fill a cup with the hot water and salt.
    3. Pour the saltwater mix into the bag. Close the bag and very gently squeeze and move the saltwater and banana mush together. Do this for 30 to 45 seconds.
    4. Add the dishwashing soap into the bag and gently mix the contents. Try to avoid making too much foam.
    5. Place the coffee filter in a clear glass cup, securing the top of the filter around the lip of the cup.
    6. Pour the mix into the filter and let it sit until all of the liquid drips down into the cup.
    7. Remove and discard the used coffee filter.
    8. Tilt the glass and slowly add cold alcohol down the side of the cup. You want the alcohol to form a layer on top of the banana mix, staying separated, so be careful not to pour it too fast. Make a layer of alcohol that is 2.5-5cm (1-2in) thick.
    9. After the alcohol layer is set up, wait for eight minutes. You may see some bubbles and cloudy material moving around in the alcohol. This is the DNA pieces clumping together.
    10. Use the wooden stirrer to start poking the cloudy stuff in the alcohol layer. Spin the stirrer it in place to start gathering the cloudy stuff. When you are done, take a closer look at the stuff on the stirrer. You are looking at DNA!
Well I couldn't see the DNA from a banana because I was absent but by seeing the pictures from my class mates blogs it seemed that it was exciting

    A Slice Of Lonliness

"lonliness was no stranger to Serah."As she sat by the window looking out she remembers the day when her mother had left her.She was very close to her mother. Her mother had long brownish hair, she had blue eyes, red lips and a fair skin.Serah had the same face as her mother. She could sense her mother's perfume. Her mother wore a sweet sense of rose perfume.
As she was thinking of her mother Serah could hear the voice of her mother saying " Hope is the only way of defeating lonliness." Tears rolled down her cheeks as she was thinking.Suddenly a voice intruppted her thoughts, it was her father who had ruturned home from work. Her father saw her crying,he knew that Serah was thinking of his mother. He told Serah to repeate her mother's words. The words gave her hope and erased her lonliness

unbelivabale tips for good sitting posture

this blog post is sharing tips for a good sitting postureMe and my class 10DTE, were doing infographic on Ergonomics. This is to help the people who have shoulder and neck pain.these tips will help alot.

    reflection

I like doing a infographic because I like the layout of it. I can easily read and understand it. Doing the inforgraphic on ergonomics helped me to learn more about ergonomics, I've learnt that if you drop your neck down but keeping your head straight forward  is causing pain on your neck, shoulder, and back. I've also learnt that you need to put your feet flat on the ground and your legs should be on the same level as your waist and how to make a infographic.

    slave trade

    slave trade
in my social studie class we did a map on the slave trade triangle. This map shows the first passage used to trade slaves.
    this my map

What is the Slave Trade Triangle?
The best-known triangular trading system is the transatlantic slave trade, that operated from the late 16th to early 19th centuries, carrying slaves, cash crops, and manufactured goods between West Africa, Caribbean or American colonies and the Europe
    What is the First Passage?
Events are often triggered when a stochastic or random process first encounters a threshold. The threshold can be a barrier, boundary or specified state of a system. ... More colloquially, a first passage time in a stochastic system, is the time taken for a state variable to reach a certain value.
    What is the Middle Passage?
The Middle Passage refers to the part of the trade where Africans, densely packed onto ships, were transported across the Atlantic
    What is the Third Passage?
The voyage took three to four months and, during this time, the enslaved people mostly lay chained in rows on the floor of the hold or on shelves that ran around the inside of the ships' hulls.
